to the gypsy…
when i was a little girl, i used to dress up in my mom’s long skirts and scarves in my long hair and jangley jewelry and spin round and round.  i pretended i was stevie nicks.  that may sound like a strange aspiration for a little girl, but to me it made perfect sense.  i grew up in a house where all kinds of music was not just played, but revered. young stevie on my mom’s album covers and tapes fascinated me.  she was beautiful and witchy and ethereal and creative free spirit. and that magical voice. haunting and powerful, sweet and fragile. as i got older, i saw her in different terms, deeply emotional and troubled and flawed, but a survivor who wrote it all down.
happy birthday to my very own rock goddess.  when i was a little girl i wanted to be stevie nicks and i still do.

Hey what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the nights busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heavens waiting on down the tracks
